DevTV: Introductory recordings on Autodesk APIs

My team has been working very hard on some recordings of introductory presentations around our APIs. Here is the first batch of recordings we've just posted as part of our DevTV series (the idea being these are recordings that are "produced", while our webcast recordings are somewhat raw):

Introduction to AutoCAD .NET Programming view download (148 MB)
Introduction to Inventor Programming view download (51.7 MB)
Introduction to Revit Programming view download (64.3 MB)
Introduction to Civil 3D Programming view download (27.3 MB)
Introduction to MapGuide Enterprise Programming view download (37.4 MB)

Enjoy! :-)

Excellent work! Any chance we'll see one for Vault/Productstream?

These are very nice and very helpful for people. Great Job!

Jim -

It's not one that's in the works, right now, but I'll pass on the suggestion.

Kean

Kean,
Do you have plans to convert the samples to buildable C# solutions ?

///kwb

Kerry,

I wasn't personally involved in preparing the material, but I have passed on your question.

Kean

OK - apparently not, but you should be able to use online convertors or SharpDevelop, of course.

Please post a comment if you have problems converting any of the samples.

Thats the same erroneous assumption that was made about the SDK samples.

There are 73 errors and warnings generated trying to build the converted solution.
While some of these are similar errors they still require attending to.
I'm sure that not everyone trying to learn from the samples would want to learn the idiosyncracies of VB just required to make the translation.

Regards
Kerry

PS:
I noticed that the Revit Samples DO have both VB and CS code included ....

Kerry,

The presenter chose to use VB for this sample. I mostly choose C#, but have, on the odd occasional, chosen to use VB. The choice I make is to spend my time focusing on generating more content rather than spending time on conversion - I started off posting in both languages but soon found it too time-consuming.

I would hope that the majority of readers would agree with this choice (as otherwise my output would reduce: there's simply no way around that).

The online tools are generally pretty good. If you know the target environment (which you should, given that's the environment you're choosing to translate into), then you should be able to work out what else needs to be changed pretty quickly.

And if you have trouble, let me know.

Kean

Thanks Kean, We all appreciate it! Will you be at AU?

Absolutely! I have a couple of classes (both full, unfortunately) and an "AU Unplugged" session on Thursday.

Be sure to add yourself to the "Through the Interface" group on AU Online! :-)

Kean

Thank you for the excellent training videos! I was wavering between learning VB or C# (after the recent announcements about VBA there are a lot of us wondering which direction to go in) but having these in VB has been the final deciding factor for me.

This Thread post has the sample source solution in C#.

Kerry,

Thanks for posting this info.

We'll see what we can do to provide samples accompanying this type of training in multiple languages, in future (resources permitting).

The timing of this particular one was bad, in a sense: with all the work we needed to do to prepare for AU it just wasn't something we could get to in the required timeframe.

Regards,

Kean

Dear Kean,
thank you for this videos.
Is it possible to get the AsdkInspectorVC8.arx?

Roland

I've been having issues locating the inspector as well. Any thoughts?

I've sent the application to those of you who've requested it. For now I'm doing so by email until I determine the appropriate place to post this.

Kean
